This is the first installment of our Cohort Spotlight series for the Women’s Entrepreneurial Fellowship. We’re sitting down with the women who make this program what it is: hearing their stories, challenges, and what drives them as business owners.
First up is Kirbay Preuss, a small business owner whose work has caught the attention of Stephen Colbert not once, but two years in a row. We sat down with Kirbay to talk about Preuss Pets, what it’s really like to run a company, and her experience in the fellowship.
We covered it all in a Q&A and on an episode of the Happy Hour Hustle podcast.
Here’s what Kirbay had to say in our Q&A:
Q: What do you wish people understood about being a small business owner?
A: That it’s far from anything small. It’s big heart, big decisions, big risks, big work, and big rests that are so very worth it.
Q: Why did you apply to be a part of the Fellowship?
A: Solidarity and community. Leadership can be lonely. Safety and connection is found when we share our similar experiences. I was yearning for community that can validate shared challenges.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: We were featured on Stephen Colbert 2 years in a row for our uniqueness. Stephen doesn’t lie.
